Experience

I grew up in Wyoming, and moved to New York State to attend Nyack College, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Adolescent English Education. I received New York State Certification to teach English & Language Arts for 7th to 12th grade. I'm most passionate about teaching Literature, Writing, and all manners of English. All through college, I completed coursework in Literature, and I have broad expertise in the subject, from critical reading skills to the craft of writing. I'm well-acquainted with U.S. Literature, British Literature, the Classics (Milton, Shakespeare, etc.), Y.A. Literature, and a panoply of dramas. Additionally, I've worked as a mentor at Nyack College, where I've helped students with their academic writing skills. I've also tutored at a middle school in my area, and taught 8th graders Reading in the Bronx. I currently work with a tutoring agency. I'm truly passionate about helping students to improve upon their writing and reading, skills which are relevant to any area of study. I like to think of myself as "an awakener," rather than a teacher, as Robert Frost once said. When working with students, I work to identify what strategies best work for them, and which also speak to their strong points and passions. I've been highly involved in athletics (soccer) since high school and have played at the collegiate level, which has bolstered my skills as a teacher and leader.
